For the first time, AMST`s unique SmartEject™ system allows realism and safety to be maximised with no compromise.
  • Using intelligent control systems technology, the SmartEject™ system precisely coordinates and controls the pneumatic firing system and the seat braking mechanisms in order to produce the required force profile of the ejection sequence (based on max G-load, loading weight and onset/offset rates) with maximum safety.

THE AMST’S SmartEject™ EJECTION SEAT TRAINING SYSTEM GIVES A WIDE GROWTH POTENTIAL FOR THE USER TRAINING EFFICIENCY BY ENLARGING THE TRAINING REALISM FROM THE BASIC SYSTEM TO THE ADVANCED SYSTEM.

  • The design of the AMST’s ejection seat trainer is with considerable emphasis on safety, realism and reliability.
  • The system allows a pilot to fly a mission and then face a critical aircraft emergency. The pilot is then able to eject in a realistic way from the stricken aircraft.
  • The cockpit assembly looks similar to a fighter aircraft, has a pneumatically operated ejection seat with guide rails, an advanced computer control system and a comprehensive instructor operator station.
  • The training allows becoming familiar with the correct ejection posture and the ejection sequence, while practising their decision-making skills during simulated aircraft emergencies.

 

There are two possible modes in which basic ejection training can be accomplished:

  • In the passive ejection mode, the student undergoes an ejection initiated by the instructor.  In the active ejection mode, the pilot initiates ejection via the seat-pan firing handle under the control of the instructor.
  • The advanced EST allows enhanced training for decision making in case of an emergency. Creates awareness on whether or not to eject and sharpens the decision-making process in case of emergency.

The mast is a very stiff steel profile and contains the guide rails for the sledge with the ejection seat. To hold the sledge with the ejection seat after firing and to lower the sledge to the start position, the mast is equipped with a failure safe lowering device. The mast has tilt adjustment. On the top is a safety damper and a distance measurement.

The seat is a generic a/c seat, mounted on the sledge with adapters. During ejection, the sledge will glide along the rails of the rail tower. The descent of the sledge/seat is failure safe. The seat is equipped with a belt retraction mechanism to fulfil the safety requirements of the simulator. Seat angle adjustment via adjustment of the mast.
COCKPIT

COCKPIT

Cockpit design is similar to a modern fighter aircraft. Moving forward/ backwards on an integrated rail system. It has basic flight instruments (angle of pitch and roll attitude, vertical speed, flight speed, vertical component of G-load, angle of attack and the parameter of the fuel gauge system, altimeter, compass, HUD and HDD and controls (stick, pedals).

The aircraft cockpit section is equipped with software-generated instruments, displayed on TFT flat panels. The instructor can select different instrument configurations to simulate different types of aircrafts. It has an additional G-meter and an aircraft system master warning and caution system.

The IOS has clearly arranged sections to provide the instructor a logical and safe training run with GUI to operate the SmartEject™ control and monitoring system, a GUI to operate the flight simulator module and the recording section.
PRESSURISED AIR SYSTEM

PRESSURISED AIR SYSTEM

The pneumatic ejection system consists of a compressed air cylinder, an air charging system, a pressure regulator and pneumatic valves. Controlled by a PLC according to the required G-load and trainee’s weight. Furthermore, the system is integrated in the safety system to prevent the occurrence of training emergencies.

SAFETY SYSTEM

Sensors ensure a proper posture of the trainee at the ejection seat: head, shoulder left/right, elbow left/right and legs. Trigger button of firing is included in the safety chain. Pressure sensors, mechanical interlock of ejection cylinder for unintended firing. Emergency stop system, sledge/seat hold and descent device with safety damping cylinder.
SOFTWARE

SOFTWARE

The SmartEject™ control and monitoring system is the kernel software to guarantee safe and reliable system operation. The control computer implements all algorithms, which calculate the force profile (compressed air pressure) required for the required G-load and loading weight. The pneumatic system is fully automatically controlled and monitored.

COCKPIT VIDEO SYSTEM

One CCTV CCD video camera installed at the seat-sledge moves with the trainee during ejection. The video image shows the trainee’s actions up to and during the eject process. Camera adjustment via a remote control box. A second camera observes body position of the trainee.

The advanced system includes a flight simulator, an additional IOS and a visual system. The instrument panel shows the basic flight and engine instruments. The instructor initiates malfunctions. The visual system is a three-channel back projection system.

The ILS team supports the customer during the lifetime of the equipment to achieve the operational requirements, in particular operational availability greater than 95 % with affordable life cycle costs. AMST provides different levels of maintenance up to a careless package.

AMST awarded the contract for an Advanced Ejection Seat Trainer for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Armed Forces Medical Services Directorate (KSA AFMSD). Installation and final acceptance of the simulator was in 2015 at the King Abdulaziz Airbase in Dhahran.
